The name Bearabad is derived from the Sylvin language, as Bearabad was founded by Shîb Holt, who was culturaly Sylvin.
Climate
Bearabad has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 28°C (82°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 9°C (48°F). Bearabad receives an average of 203 cm/y (79 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the fall. Bearabad covers an area of nearly 6 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 3016 m (9895 ft) above sea level.
Overview
Bearabad was founded durring the late 17th century in early spring of the year 1568, by Shîb Holt. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.
Bearabad was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 17th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Bearabad is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber and earth construction, with most buildigns first floors resembling mounds of earth, with subsequent floors appearing as elaborate log cabins, with each building forming a tiered pyramid of sorts fromed from the stack of rectangular, peek roofed cabins. Most wooden bracing, support, and trim is carved with decorative knotwork, and the larger structures even feature painted trim which emphasises the knotwork.
Bearabad is buildings folow an organic layout of narrow paverstone streets whihch gives the town a shape simmilar to a tree, if one views its streets from above. The town posesses a mighty albit amaturly crafted stone wall. It was built using querried stone blocks and posesses all of the standard defencive features, including a few watch towers. While it would last against a siege, the wall's outdated and simplistic construction method percludes the possability of Bearabad weathering a full scale bombardment durring a siege. Unfortuantly, these budget focused millitary grade defenses are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.
The first thing you notice about Bearabad is the large sign at the entrance welcoming you to their humble town. Children come up to you and say hi, some asking if you’ve fought any big monsters, and others just zipping away after their hello. The adults are much the same. By the time you’ve made it a significant way into the town you’ve been invited to a tavern for a pint to drink in exchange for news of the world. You’ve also had no less than three older women give you a sweetroll and direct your attention to their still unmarried children. It would be creepy if it wasn't so sincere.
Civic Infrastructure
Bearabad has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Bearabad. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Bearabad's parks.
Bearabad has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Bearabad.
Bearabad has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.
Bearabad has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.
Bearabad has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Bearabad's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.
Bearabad has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Bearabad's natural decorations nor waterways.
Bearabad has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.
Bearabad has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.
Cultural Notes
Bearabad's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by dynamic designs and complex architectural plan forms; intended to heighten feelings of motion and sensuality, and frequently based on the oval. It made extensive and extreme use of: Grandeur, Contrast, Curves and twists, Rich surface treatments, Gilded statuary, Bright colors, Vividly painted ceilings, Fragmented or deliberately incomplete elements, Large-scale frescoes, Dramatic central projections on an external facade, the use of plaster, stucco, or marble finishing, Illusory effects such as trompe l’oeil, and pear-shaped domes. While beloved by the nobility, the common folk tended to despise the style due to the massive consumption of resources required for even a small building constructed in this style.
Due to the actions of local Kami, summer is short in Bearabad.
The Crawling Hand near Bearabad are known to be quite timid.
Bearabad's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves long periods of drunkenness to channel Illusion energies of tier 2 via singing.
Economy

Many of Bearabad’s structures date back to the ancient past and a long-vanished culture. They have unique architectural traits, perhaps being made of some strange substance or with uncanny qualities. The locals find them too useful or too durable to destroy, but the buildings often have unpleasant little surprises in their under-explored corners, and there may be greater structures still buried by long ages beneath Bearabad’s streets.
